Handsome Prince Takes Preferred

Handsome Prince enjoyed a cozy pocket trip behind Object Of Art, then brushed by him in the lane to score a convincing victory in Monday’s $22,500 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows

.

Dave Palone gunned Handsome Prince to the front but willingly yielded to Object Of Art, who was strong enough to thwart the early challengers. But Handsome Prince, the 1-5 favourite as part of a Ron Burke-trained entry, pulled the pocket into the final turn and easily outkicked Object Of Art to the wire, downing him by 3-1/4 lengths in 1:53.1 over a “sloppy” track. Jonesie Hanover was well back in third.

Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and M1 Stable LLC own Handsome Prince, a six-year-old Grinfromeartoear-Nova Princess gelding who now boasts $291,704 in career earnings.

Palone drove six winners — five for Burke — on the 15-race card.
