The betting public didn’t give E W Fisher much of a chance to win Monday evening’s $60,000 final of the General Brock Stakes at Woodbine Racetrack, but driver Scott Zeron sure did

.

The nation’s winningest reinsman of 2011 piked the four-year-old son of Fool Me Not-La Delicatesse to the lead from his post nine perch on the starting gate, and the gelding didn’t look back en route to the stakes record-setting clocking of 1:54.2. The effort shaved one-fifth of a second off the former mark of 1:54.3 set in 2004 by another Rick Zeron trainee, Deadmans Curve.

E W Fisher raced past the quarter pole in :27.3, and followed up with middle panels of :56.4 and 1:26. Zeron called on his charge to find another gear coming out of the final turn, and E W Fisher complied by generating a :28.2 final frame. That was good enough to earn him the 4-1/4 length score over race favourite Magic Machine. Third prize went to Victom AS.

The victory was the second score of the season from three trips postward for E W Fisher, who is owned by Lise Lang of Dewittville and Saul Mendelson of Montreal, QC. The six-time winner has stashed away $54,760 to date.
