A bulky field of nine tackled the $8,500 Preferred 3 Handicap for horse and gelding pacers at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and Shippen Out came away victorious despite a rough trip.
Alfie Carroll got away third in the early going with Shippen Out, who watched Good Friday Three and Think On It battle to the first station in :28.1. The latter worked his way to the top, but Shippen Out went into attack mode on the way to the half. Think On It hit the half-way point in :57.1 before Shippen Out worked past him in the backstretch. Shippen Out was parked past the three-quarter pole in 1:26.2 while racing on the lead, and he used a :29.3 closing quarter to win by three-lengths over Tero in 1:56. B N Bad took home the show dough.
Sent off as the 2-1 favourite, the five-year-old son of Badlands Hanover-Shipps Bikini bumped his lifetime earnings to $181,659 with the win. The 12-time winner, who was making the 100th start of his career, is owned by Ottawa, Ont. partners Gordon Mc Donald and Christopher Boland.
