Sent postward as the heavy 1-5 favourite in the $25,000 Penny Bath Memorial for three-year-old pacing fillies, Just Fiction held on to prevail over S R S Annie on Saturday afternoon at Fraser Downs
.
Prior to the Western Regional Driving Championship, Just Fiction left from Post 4 and carved out fractions of :28.1, :58.1 and 1:26.3 for trainer-driver Ed Hensley. As the homebred Kents On Nuke-Battalia Hanover filly entered the stretch, Strange Desire (Scott Knight) pulled the pocket and S R S Annie (Mike Hennessy) shot up the rail to apply late pressure. Digging in, Just Fiction managed to hold off her foes for the victory in 1:56.1. S R S Annie missed by a neck while Strange Desire finished three lengths back in third.
Just Fiction paid $2.50 to win for the second time in three 2011 starts. Last year, the brown filly won seven of eight races including the BC Sales Stake and the BC Breeders Stake, and finished second in the BC Stallion Stake to S R S Annie. She now boasts a bankroll of $80,540 for the J J J Stables of Aldergrove, B.C. and Alan Anderson of Willows, California.
