Written off at 20-1, Seeyou At Thebeach seized the lead with a quick backside burst and held on late to spring the upset in Friday’s $16,000 Open Handicap Pace at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
Seeyou At Thebeach was third when Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. sent him after the leader, Prince Of Tides, who had enjoyed a :29 second-quarter breather but proved vulnerable on the “good” surface. Once he cleared and crossed over, the five-year-old Somebeachsomewhere-Persistent gelding dug in to defeat the rallying Torrin Hanover by three parts of a length in 1:52.1. Wild Wild Western was a good third in his 2022 debut.
Ron Burke trains the winner, who lifted his lifetime bankroll to $274,331, for Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, Purnel & Libby LLC and Kitefield Stable.
Burke collected four victories and Wrenn three on the 11-race card.
