On the heels of a solid-looking qualifier, Fancourt looked even more impressive when making his pari-mutuel debut Thursday evening at Woodbine Racetrack.
Fancourt, a homebred product of Millar Farms of Newmarket, Ont., got away slowly before finishing with loads of pace en route to posting a narrow victory in 1:55.1.
Sylvain Filion got away seventh with the Eric Adams-trained three-year-old son of Big Jim-Catch A Wish, and the pair picked up a position as the field passed by the half-mile marker in :56.4. They were third and parked while racing past the three-quarter pole in 1:26.4, but a :28.1 closing panel helped propel the sophomore to the half-length decision over race favourite Flaherty.
It was one of two wins on the card for conditioner Adams, who clicked one race earlier with Bettys Bay, a three-year-old Mach Three filly out of the mare Chocolate Truffle. She also races for the Millar Farms.
