Generosity was omnipresent on February 20 at Harrington Raceway and Casino as more than $15,000 was raised in the eighth annual donation drive to benefit the Food Bank of Delaware.
The 2022 fundraising totals exceeded last year’s, which brought in approximately $12,000.
There was an outpouring of support from the community as nearly 1,500 guests participated in the fundraiser.
“Harrington Raceway and Casino is committed to strengthening and improving our community, and the Food Bank is one of the organizations for which we have a strong collaboration,” said Hank Rosenberg, Chief Operating Officer of Hospitality at Harrington Raceway and Casino. “It has been a trying two years for the whole country and it is sad to think that with all of the complications we have been facing, the main challenge for many is just putting food on the table. Unfortunately, I think that need is often understated right here in Kent and Sussex Counties. We are so grateful to our patrons and staff who participated in this event.”
The Food Bank of Delaware has two locations in the “First State,” one in Newark, and the other in Milford.
"We can't thank Harrington Raceway and Casino enough for this generous gift," said Chad Robinson, Food Bank of Delaware Director of External Affairs. "Over 50 per cent of our statewide distribution is in Kent and Sussex counties, which tells us there is great need in our local communities. This gift will provide over 45,000 meals for food insecure Delawareans. With partners like Harrington Raceway and Casino, who care about the communities they serve, we are working to achieve our vision of a community free of hunger."
The Food Bank of Delaware’s mission is to provide nutritious foods to Delawareans in need and facilitate long-term solutions to the problems of hunger and poverty through community education and advocacy. The FBD relies heavily on volunteers and its hundreds of hunger-relief partners in its food distribution efforts. For more information or to donate, go to fbd.org.
