Amazon Dragon put the pedal to the metal early in Monday’s $8,800 featured pace at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and he kept on rolling en route to a blowout score for driver Colin Kelly and trainer Kyle Bossence.
Kelly marched out from Post 4 with Amazon Dragon, and the gelding chopped out fractions of :28.1, :57.4 and 1:26.1 before cruising home in :30.2 to win by four lengths over Easton Beach in 1:56.3. Taking home third prize was Kenny Joe.
Sent off at odds of 9-1, the four-year-old son of Custard The Dragon-Artoonist won for the second time this season and for the sixth time in his career. He pushed his earnings over $40,000 with the victory for partners William Brown and Brenda Derible.
Jack Of Clubs kicked off cover in the late stages of his assignment en route to capturing the $8,500 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers.
In rein to Tyler Moore, the gelding got away fourth from Post 7 while The Regulator and Im Not Bad battled to the quarter pole in :28.2. Im Not Bad took over shortly past that point and continued to roll the field through middle splits of :58.4 and 1:29. Mercenary provided cover in the back half for Jack Of Clubs, and the eventual winner kicked home in :29.3 to win by three-quarters of a length over race favourite Jewels Dragon in 1:58.3. The Regulator was third.
Garry MacDonald of Dundas, Ont. owns and trains the six-year-old son of World Of Rocknroll-CC Kloe who has put together a 2-2-2 record from six starts this season. The 18-time winner has banked just shy of $100,000 to date.
