Disturbed Hanover sustained a first-over grind and sprang a 20-1 upset in Wednesday's (Feb. 23) $25,000 Mares Open Handicap Pace at Dover Downs.
Driver Barton Dalious was patient with the six-year-old daughter of Big Jim in the race's early stages, yielding to fourth from the pole as Shes Pukka N circled three-wide around Feeling Sweet and Tae to seize control at the end of a :26.2 first quarter. Shes Pukka N pulled the half back to :55.3, but faced first-over pressure from Disturbed Hanover up the backstretch. After forcing a 1:24.2 three-quarter split, Disturbed Hanover ground to a mid-stretch lead, eclipsing Shes Pukka N by three-quarters of a length in 1:52.1. Soho Burning Love A, the 4-5 favourite, rallied belatedly from third-over to finish third.
