Shooting from last, Y S Suzanne hit the finish first to take the $8,600 Preferred Handicap Trot at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday (Feb. 23).
Hopes Solo parked when circling past Hldontghttoyurdrms to the lead passing a :28.1 first quarter. Ghirardelli Lindy soon flushed first over from third to supply cover to Revenue Agent, parked from the strat. Hopes Solo clung to a slim lead past a :58 half but lost control into the backside to Ghirardelli Lindy, who rushed to a three-length advantage nearing three-quarters in 1:27.3.
Y S Suzanne continued to race from seventh moving into the final turn. Lmc Mass Gem wound wide from sixth and gained six lengths on the tiring pacesetters moving to the top of the stretch. Y S Suzanne tracked the race-favourite’s late rush and kicked off the helmet, sliding to a one-and-a-quarter length victory in 1:59.4. Cheque The Magic finished third.
A seven-year-old mare by Angus Hall, Y S Suzanne won her 20th race from 140 starts, earning $221,613. Stephane Brosseau drove the $13.60 winner for trainer Blake Curran, who co-owns the winner with Jason Jamieson.
