Sintra ($3.30) remains a perfect five-for-five through his six-year-old season after sweeping off cover and past pacesetter Physicallyinclined for a 1:50.3 score in Saturday night's (Feb. 23) $34,000 Preferred Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park, and trainer Richard Moreau enjoyed a treble on the 11-race card.
Jody Jamieson put the six-year-old Mach Three gelding in play from the outside, but the pair were unable to settle along the pegs until finding a seat in fifth just beyond a :25.4 quarter from Physicallyinclined (Jonathan Drury). With nine-sixteenths to go, Sintra was back out and moving, following the cover of Maroma Beach (Louis-Philippe Roy) through middle splits of :55 and 1:23.2 before sweeping three-wide off failing cover nearing the head of the home straight.
Off the corner, Sintra found another gear entirely on his own, and the millionaire powered past Physicallyinclined in mid-stretch to win by 1-1/2 lengths under minimal urging. Brodys Scrapper (Travis Cullen) hooked out of traffic in upper stretch and lifted through the last sixteenth to take third.
Dave Menary trains Sintra, a 23-time winner, for Brad Gray, Michael Guerriero, and Menary Racing Inc.
Moreau kicked off his training hat trick in the opener with trotter Revenue Agent ($3.30, 1:55.2) before sending Brave World ($7.00, 1:51) and Messi N ($6.90, 1:52.1) to victory in the third and fourth races, both conditioned pacing events. Louis-Philippe Roy handled the driving duties for Moreau on each occasion.
