Windsun Twister and driver Luc Ouellette successfully navigated a bulky field of 12 to win Monday’s single $20,000 division in the second leg of the Ontario Boys Pacing Series for four-year-olds
at Woodbine Racetrack.
The hulking son of Camotion - Buena Hanover, who stands 17 hands tall, left sharply from Post 2 and took the early lead through the first quarter of :27.2.
Approaching the half, Windsun Twister yielded command to an onrushing Dinner Guest who put up the second fraction of :57.1. That round-one winner then had to deal with the other first-leg winner, Warp Speed, who came on the attack.
The top pair sprinted past the third station in 1:25 with Windsun Twister sitting inside third and Winter Blues moving up second over in fourth.
As the field turned for home, Warp Speed started to back away after the tough trip and that allowed Ouellette to bring his charge to the outside. Windsun Twister had plenty left and was able to overhaul the pacesetter while holding off a hard-closing Winter Blues with Warp Speed coming back on to salvage the show spot.
The 1:53.4 effort was the second win in six outings and a new lifetime mark for Windsun Twister who is trained by Alvin Hamilton who co-owns along with the Black Walnut Stables and David McNabb of Ontario.
The $55,400 final of the Ontario Boys Series will go postward next Monday night at Woodbine Racetrack.
