Frisco Bay N fended off a racelong challenge from the lead to win the $22,603 Winners Over/Open Handicap Pace at Saratoga Casino Hotel on Saturday, Feb. 21.
Shawn Gray picked up the catch-drive behind Frisco Bay N, who started from post four in the six-horse feature. Gray flashed speed to take the front with the New Zealand-bred pacer, who was pressed nearly every step of the way by Rocknroll Runa A (Larry Stalbaum) while posting fractions of :27.1, :56.4 and 1:25.2. Rocknroll Runa A faded on the far turn, handing the torch to pocket-sitter Captain Caveman (Jacob Cutting), who was making his debut in the local Open. He charged from the pocket, but Frisco Bay N lasted on the lead for a 1:54.4 score by a neck. Rebellious (Chris Long) earned the show spot for the second consecutive week in the pacing feature.
Frisco Bay N has had a feast-or-famine start to his 2026 campaign at Saratoga. The Jackie Greene trainee pulled off a big-time upset in the first Open Pace of the year contested earlier in the month, scoring at odds of 34-1. He faced difficult trips in his following two starts and missed cheques in both before returning for Saturday's win. The six-year-old son of Downbytheseaside-Idealistic, owned by Kellogg Racing Stables LLC, is now 12-for-49 lifetime. He paid $15.64 to win.
Live racing continues at Saratoga on Sunday with a matinee that begins at noon.
