Pacers Classic Gent and L H Lil Count managed to keep their respective 2013 records perfect, scoring for the fifth consecutive time this year in a pair of photo finishes.
Five-time Wednesday winner Trevor Henry circled the ninth race field of eight aboard sophomore Classic Gent to nail front-stepper I Wanna Be Geared by a nose at the wire in 1:57.3. The victory was the Blissfull Hall colt's fastest of five this year for trainer Stanley Malec and owner-breeder Classic Farms of Belle River, Ont. Classic Gent, winner of an Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots division last year, now boasts seven wins in 11 career starts and earnings totalling $36,560.
Moving up into the $8,000 claiming class, L H Lil Count held off A Regular Terror and King For A Queen in a three-across finish earlier on the card in the third dash. Nick Steward steered the six-year-old Astreos son to the 1:58.3 triumph, his fifth this year and seventh in a row for trainer Mike Bishop and owner Sarah Cottrell, Ingersoll, Ont. L H Lil Count now sports a lifetime record reading 16-17-5 in 92 starts with earnings totalling $94,222.
Henry's other winners were Lucky Beach for trainer Jack Parsons, the maiden-breaking Rock N Go for Garth Gordon, repeater Gavins Designer for Ron Adams, and Distinctiv Dreamer for Stephen Bossence. Making his first start for Bossence, Distinctiv Dreamer posted the largest win margin on the card in the finale as he left his rivals 17-1/2 lengths in arrears.
