Jans Rich Girl made her connections a bit richer on Sunday afternoon thanks to her narrow triumph in the $12,500 Fillies & Mares Open at Fraser Downs

Sent off at odds of 5-1 in the six-mare affair, Jans Rich Girl took the field to the opening quarter in a :28-second clip before trainer/driver Scott Knight gave way to Mystic Maiden. That foe proceeded to wheel the field through middle splits of :56.2 and 1:25.1 before coming under late attack from the pocket sitter. Knight had Jans Rich Girl charged up in the closing strides, and her :28.3 final frame was enough to prevail by three-quarters of a length over race favourite Mystic Maiden in 1:54. Rossridge Fortune tagged along to finish third.
The Sunbury Stables of Aldergrove, BC hold the ownership papers on the six-year-old daughter of Camluck-Rich Jan. The victory was her fourth of the season in seven attempts, and the lion’s share of the purse boosted her career cash stash in excess of $157,000.
