The 2010 Alberta Standardbred Horse Association (ASHA) Awards were presented on Saturday evening at the Northlands Park Paddock Theatre in Edmonton with Alberta’s Horse of the Year honours going to River Lass
.
River Lass won 13 of 23 starts as a sophomore earning over $226,000 for trainer Kelly Hoerdt, who also co-owns with fellow Beaumont resident Blair Corbeil.
The daughter of As Promised-Brass Buttons’s biggest victories came in the $100,000 Battle of Alberta Super Final and the $75,000 ASHA Breeders Stake. She was also a close second in the $100,000 Western Filly Pace. Her top notch efforts on the track also earned her the Three-Year-Old Alberta Sired Filly title.
Hall of Fame horseman Keith Clark was named both Trainer and Driver of the Year again in 2010. Clark drove 170 winners to over $1.1 million in earnings. On the training side, he sent out 168 winners and earned $1.3 million in purses. Among his crew were ASHA Award winners Western Olympian, Lady And Thetrench and Wrangler Hitech.
