Jett Propelled cashed in on a drop in class as she took a garden trip to victory in the $24,658 Fillies and Mares Winners Over Pace at Bally’s Dover on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
Jett Propelled left aggressively for Jason Thompson to lead racing into the first turn while Lulu Rocks (Russell Foster) landed in second from post one. Always B Merry (Corey Callahan), aiming for a fourth straight win, floated out on the outside, then sprinted to lead past the quarter in :27.2. Always B Merry, the 3-5 favourite, raced confidently to the half in :56 and kept her foes in line until Stevie Hanover (Montrell Teague) began a first-over sprint up the backstretch to three-quarters in 1:24.4.
At the top of the stretch, Stevie Hanover could no longer sustain a threatening bid on the rim. Jett Propelled revved up her engines along the pylons and edged past Always B Merry by a half-length to score in 1:53.2. Scrivener Hanover (Art Stafford Jr.) got up for third.
Jett Propelled is owned, trained and was bred by Bob Shahan of Harrington, De. The five-year-old Roddys Bags Again-Jett Away mare is now 17-for-70 lifetime. She paid $5.40 for the win.
Racing returns to Dover on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. with a 12-race card headlined by a $25,000 USD Open Pace. Morning-line favourite Stevens Saloon will take on Muskateer Hanover and Jacks Shadow N. There is a carryover worth $2,353 into the Pick 5, which begins in the sixth race.
