After crossing to command from the outside post position, there was no catching Dragin The Wagon in Sunday night's featured $11,500 Preferred 2 Trot at Flamboro Downs.
Driven by Aaron Byron, the homebred Angus Hall gelding wired five foes in the second race, setting fractions of :28.1, :58 and 1:27.2 along the way before stopping the clock in 1:57.2 with a six-length lead. Fox Valley Veto came on for second over Wildwild Men and Muscle Matters.
Dragin The Wagon paid $6.30 to win as the 2-1 second choice to Seeyou Men, who broke stride in the final turn while launching a wide bid from the back of the pack.
Winning his third seasonal start, the eight-year-old trotter notched his 40th victory lifetime for Ontario owners Cary, David and Michael Cantelon.
A pair of $8,500 Preferred 3s for pacers were won in close finishes by Matthew Dupuis trainee Avatartist ($3.30) in 1:54.3 with Doug McNair catch-driving and HP Patriote ($7.60), who completed a perfect three-for-three night for the Gerard Demers stable with his 1:54.4 mile in rein to Robert Shepherd. Danzig Moon ($6.40) and Playin For Keeps ($7.80) also won their respective Sunday night assignments for the duo of Demers and Shepherd. McNair ended the night with a driving triple of his own.
