T M Mohawk, a five-year-old Western Paradise gelding out of the Direct Scooter mare Direct Memory went wire-to-wire in 2:05.1 to register his first win of the year for owner David Krol, in a heavy snowstorm at Buffalo Raceway
Wednesday night.
The win was also the first for 19-year-old trainer Shawn McDonough, who made it to the winner’s circle, with his eighth start of the meet.
"My dad Mark has helped me out a lot," said McDonough. "I also want to thank my mom [Cathy] for always bringing me to the track.
“We’ve only had this horse a week or so, and I’m grateful to Mr. Krol for supplying the stock. On a night like tonight, it was lucky to draw inside, and Kevin [driver Kevin Cummings] gave him a perfect drive.”
Leaving from Post 3 in the field of eight, Cummings put T M Mohawk on the lead and cut all the fractions in the race, :31.1, 1:03.4 and 1:35. Finishing second were Sams Mitey Light and driver Tom Agosti, while Joey Pants (Ray Fisher, Jr.) came in third.
