Flashchap and driver Louis-Philippe Roy flashed speed late as the even-money favourite when she staged a late rally to score in the $24,000 conditioned trot which served as the feature on the Monday (Feb. 16) card at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Leaving from post six in the field of nine who are non-winners of six or $80,000 lifetime heading into the event, Flashchap found herself on the rail in third on the first turn while Chic Choc Rose (Travis Cullen) raced to the inside of Supersonic Hanover (Jean Plante) to reach the quarter first in :28.4. Supersonic Hanover pressed on to clear the lead, taking the field to the half in :58.2 while Flashchap found herself a pinned-in fourth along the cones. The traffic woes continued for the favourite from in fourth with Supersonic Hanover reaching three-quarters in 1:27 with first-over pressure coming from the 20-1 Move Your Mass (Bob McClure).
At the head of the lane, Flashchap was able to angle off the cones and in behind the dueling leaders with Supersonic Hanover and Move Your Mass continuing to slug it out. With less than an eighth of a mile to go, Flashchap found a seam to the outside, exploding home in :28.2 to surge clear by 1-3/4 lengths on the wire to stop the timer in 1:56. Supersonic Hanover was able to fend off a game Move Your Mass for the place position.
Trained by Eric Nadeau, the victory was the first of 2026 in six outings for Flashchap and the 11th win of her career. The winning pilot of Campbellville, Ont. also owns the four-year-old daughter of Chapter Seven-Wing Flash who has banked $214,017 for her career.
A pair of $15,000 splits of the second leg of a Pop-Up Series for $20,000 claiming pacers who are non-winners of $30,000 lifetime were also conducted on the card. The first division went to Tour Champion (Travis Henry, $3.90) in 1:53.3 for trainer Keith MacDonell, with the second belonging to Bettor Beast (Tyler Jones, $7.80) in 1:54.3 for trainer Kyle Fellows.
