After having been bet down to even-money status for Fraser Downs’ $10,800 Open Pace on Sunday (Feb. 16), Boiling Oar ($4.10) went to the front, made every pole a winning one, and recorded a 1:51.3 win, which was his third consecutive victory at the track’s top level.

The Jim Marino trainee lined up in Post 5 and squared off against five foes. Bill Tainsh Jr. was calling the shots from the sulky, and the duo shot off the gate quickest of all and crossed over well before the quarter-mile time flashed to life in :27.1.

The five-year-old Shadow Play gelding proceeded to cut the middle fractions (:57, 1:24.1) over the ‘fast’ track before sealing the deal with a :27.2 final quarter.

The Kelly Hoerdt-driven Iwontdothatagain, who was also sent postward at even money, took a pocket ride from Post 4, but couldn’t reach in the lane and had to settle for second. The Brandon Campbell-driven Ima Dude raced fourth through the mile, tipped out in the final quarter and won a close battle for third.

Boiling Oar, who is owned by JJJ Stables of Prince George, BC, has won three of his five starts this year and banked $19,764 in purses in 2020. Overall, Boiling Oar has won 22 of his 46 career races and banked $232,318.
