Lyons Bettorday sat patiently along the pylons and roared to victory in the $25,676 Mares Winners Over/Select Pace at Bally’s Dover on Wednesday (Feb. 14) night.
Southwind Icenfire, the 3-5 betting favourite, launched from post eight and led the field of pacing mares to the opening quarter in :27.2. Tae also left from the outside but settled in the pocket. Lyons Bettorday got away third.
Southwind Icenfire controlled the pace as the field remained in single file reaching the half in :56.3, a :29.1 quarter. Southwind Icenfire continued on an uncontested lead through a :28.1 panel, passing the three-quarters in 1:24.4.
Lyons Bettorday maneuvered off the pylons approaching the top of the stretch. Tae remained in the pocket awaiting her cue. In the stretch, Southwind Icenfire’s lead started to evaporate. Lyons Bettorday drew alongside the pacesetter and powered to victory by a neck in 1:52.4. She paid $5.80 for the win.
Lyons Bettorday (Bettors Delight-Albany Hanover) is owned by Threelyonsracing of Brantford, Ont. Jim King Jr. trained and Tim Tetrick drove the four-year-old mare, who earned her first win of the season following four on-the-board finishes.
Melody Hanover closed with a rush to finish second. Tae sat along the pylons and grabbed the show price.
The win was one of six on the night for Tetrick, who delivered a trio of wins for the Chuck Crissman Jr. stable, driving Im Done Talking ($5.80), Michelles Jaz ($4.80) and Tobago Time ($3.80). His also scored with Hungry Lady ($28.20) for Steve LeBlanc and Whassup Hanover ($2.20) for Eric Ell during the 14-race program.
I Did It Myway searches for his third consecutive win on Thursday night. He tackles Sprocket and Mack in the 12th race Blue Hen/Open Handicap Pace at Bally’s Dover. Post time is 4:30 p.m.
