Friday the 13th proved to be lucky for Classy Character, the winner of Fraser Downs’ $15,000 Open Pace

.

Leaving from Post 7, trainer/driver Tim Brown took the seven-year-old gelding to the front putting up a :27.1 opening panel. Classy Character pulled away from the field by two lengths at the half in :56, but stablemate Born Again Dragon (Gord Abbott) was ready to roll from the two-hole. That one took the lead by three-quarters in 1:27.4 and charged down the stretch. Still game, Classy Character pushed ahead in the final strides to win in 1:54.2.

Warrawee Iceman (Darren Howald) finished half a length back in second. C A Marauder (Brent Beelby) came on for third as Born Again Dragon faded to sixth.

The son of Shady Character pulled off his 27th career win and lifted his bankroll to $272,943 for owners Sandra Brown of Langley and Jack Thompson of Burnaby, B.C. Since joining Brown’s stable this year, Classy Character has won twice in four starts.
