Tom Eichas has been named Florida Amateur Driving Club’s Driver of the Year.

In making the announcement, FADC President Dein Spriggs noted Eichas’ overall contributions on the club’s behalf along with his UDR of .444 during the 2016-2017 season.

“Tom has been our secretary-treasurer for the past six years and has made remarkable contributions in the promotion of our sport and its contributions to worthy charitable organizations and society, in general.

“He has also demonstrated his prowess in the sulky with his skill enabling that lofty .444 batting average.”

Eichas is no stranger to harness racing, having purchased his first horse back in 1978. He has been a member of the Florida Amateur Driving Club since its inception in 1998 and is part of that organization that has donated their driving fees totalling more than $180,000 to charity.

Upon learning of his award, Eichas humbly remarked, “We, meaning our entire club, don’t do this for the recognition. We do it because we believe that this is what our sport can do for society. Of course, I am appreciative of the award and am gratified, but this will only provide me with more incentive to work on behalf of this great sport.”

Eichas will receive his award at the upcoming FSBOA Awards ceremonies on Sunday (February 18).
