Driver Gord Brown worked out a pretty trip from second over for Amazon Art in Monday’s $12,000 Preferred #2 at Kawartha Downs, and the pacer had no problem taking advantage of it en route to an impressive victory
.
Amazon Art tucked into an early four-hole while Mach It Paid and Windsun Callum battled to the quarter pole in :27.2. The latter worked his way to the top before being pressed by Panmunjom through middle splits of :55.4 and 1:23.4. Amazon Art, in the meantime, was lurking second over and was more than ready to strike.
Brown flipped the switch on the six-year-old son of Artsplace-Can Du River, and when he did the gelding took off. A :29.1 closing panel was more than enough to propel Amazon Art to the score by 2-3/4 lengths over Willies Place in 1:53.2. Deuces And Jacks rounded out the top three finishers in the seven-horse affair.
Sent off as the 7-5 choice, Amazon Art notched his 19th lifetime score for owner Harry Locke of Oshawa, ON. The lion’s share of the purse lifted his overall earnings to $242,190.
