Lass Shot and Garrett Rooney captured the win in the $12,000 Preferred Trot at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Monday, Feb. 10.

Shesundertheradar (Sam Fillion) and Insanity (Jason Ryan) both left sharply from the gate, while the 4-5 favourite, Tymal Riggs (Travis Henry), broke stride early. Insanity briefly held the lead, but Shesundertheradar was determined to take command, setting fractions of :29.3 and 1:00.4. Lass Shot and Rooney were the first to make a move, edging out around the second turn and continuing to apply pressure to the leader, as Shesundertheradar reached the three-quarter panel in 1:30.2. As they rounded the final turn, Lass Shot pushed forward, nudging her nose in front to take control late. She went on to win in 2:00.1 by 1-1/4 lengths. Shesundertheradar held on for second, while Insanity finished third.

The eight-year-old mare by Archangel out of Dream On Bernie is trained and owned by Brittany Kennedy. Lass Shot secured her 30th career win, increasing her lifetime earnings to $204,435. Coming off a victory at the London, Ont., oval, she stepped back up to the Preferred level, where she had earned third-place finishes in her first three starts of the year. Sent off at 6-1 odds, she returned $14.70 to win.
