Despite being ordered outside of her foes, So Frisky fired to the front and never looked back in the $12,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Handicap Pace featured on Friday night (Feb. 10) at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Driven by Colin Kelly, So Frisky crossed to command from the outermost post six and cruised through fractions of :29.1, :59 and 1:27.4 while widening her lead to 3-1/2 lengths as she hit the top of the stretch. With no serious challengers in sight, the seven-year-old Dali mare coasted home a 1:57.4 winner. My Mother Pearl (Anthony Haughan) finished three lengths behind off a pocket trip while Randomirogeo (Travis Henry) followed first-up for third.
Following three straight runner-up finishes in the Mares Preferred class to start the season, So Frisky returned $5.50 to win as the 8-5 second favourite.
The homebred mare, who was a seven-time winner last year, notched her 30th career victory and boosted her bankroll to $238,053 for trainer Anita Ouellette and owner Luc Ouellette Incorporated of Campbellville, Ont.
