Outkast Blue Chip cruised to the lead despite the second-tier starting spot and put away his competition to win the $10,000 Horses & Geldings Preferred 3 Pace on Tuesday (Feb. 1) at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
A Positive Hanover pushed for the lead from the pylon post alongside Prestige Seelster while Outkast Blue Chip settled in third. Once Prestige Seelster backed away from A Positive Hanover, driver Marc St Louis Jr. hustled Outkast Blue Chip from third into a :28.1 first quarter to take over the lead coming past the stands. He clicked by the half in :57 before accelerating into the backstretch, darting by three-quarters in 1:24.4 and opening his advantage to the final turn. Off the turn and through the stretch, Outkast Blue Chip widened his lead to pass the beam five lengths better than A Positive Hanover in a 1:54.3 mile. Racemup finished third, another four lengths behind, with Hes Got Swagger fourth.
An eight-year-old gelding by Rock N Roll Heaven, Outkast Blue Chip won his 30th race from 164 starts, pushing his earnings to $361,204. Daniel Mead owns the $3.30 winner.
