Sweeping to the front around the final turn, odds-on favourite Easy Lover Hanover strolled to a 1:51.4 victory in the featured $32,000 pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday (Feb. 1).
Matticulous Gb took command early while Physicallyinclined also left for the front but parked uncovered into a :27.1 opening quarter. Physicallyinclined continued to race first over into the backside and failed to clear control from Matticulous Gb passing a :55.4 half and hooked wheels with the pacesetter around the final turn, carrying him wide.
Easy Lover Hanover slid through the opening at the pylons and took over the front passing three-quarters in 1:24.1. Through the stretch the seven-year-old Somebeachsomewhere gelding maintained command while chased by Fixed Idea, who rallied from last to finish second by one-and-a-half lengths. Islandspecialmajor took third.
Owned by Brad Grant, Easy Lover Hanover won his 45th race from 114 starts, earning $1,067,823. Doug McNair steered the $3.80 winner for trainer Ben Wallace.
