Narragansett, under the command of Jason Hughes, was placed the winner of the feature race Sunday at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park after an interference call on the race winner.

Pictonian Storm won the Darlene Compton pace for Wade Sorrie, but was set back to sixth for interference on Modern Xhibit (Walter Cheverie) as field came out of the first turn. Narragansett, owned by Foxyhall Racing Stable of Summerside, PEI, finished second but inherited the victory after the ruling. Machinthesand (Ken Murphy) was moved up to second, with Oh To Be Me placed third to complete the triactor.

In other action, J K Queen, owned by Joe Smallwood, Stratford and Norman Clarey, Charlottetown, PEI captured the trot class in 2:07 over a track rated as “good” with a two-second variant. The victory was the first of a driving triple for Marc Campbell. Campbell also scored with Pinner from the Brian Ladner Stable and Female Finese for owner William White of Murray River, PEI.

Racing officials later downgraded the surface to a four-second variant prior to Race 5 on the day.

Oakrock Almighty and driver Gordie Hennessey closed out the winter meet with fast-closing move to notch his 32nd lifetime win for the nine-year-old pacer. Hennessey did the driving for Shirley Weeks, Hunter River and trainer Jackie Matheson. Matheson was presented with a fan’s choice award for Trainer of the Year at Red Shores.

Hughes, Terry Gallant and Mark Bradley recorded driving doubles on the final day of racing.

Live racing returns April 25th in Charlottetown and May 24th in Summerside.
