Dave Perkins of the Toronto Star has revealed that voting for the 2008 Lou Marsh Award will be taking place today. He also wrote that with Somebeachsomewhere in the mix, there is definitely a different 'player' in the running.
"This time, there's a new twist, namely a write-in campaign for the brilliant pacer Somebeachsomewhere," Perkins wrote. "It's industry-driven, but they're going about it the right way by stressing only the horse's dominance and achievements, arguably unmatched by any Canadian-owned horse in a single season in history. The SBSW campaign doesn't dump over serious candidates and try to minimize anyone else's success."
In his piece, Perkins asks the question that many have been pondering the past few weeks: can the Lou Marsh Trophy go to a racehorse? To read Perkins' article, click here.
In many people's eyes Somebeachsomewhere is definitely Canada's athlete of the Year for 2008. If you have yet to view Standardbred Canada's push to get 'The Beach' voted as such, click here.
