This morning during the qualifying session at Mohawk Racetrack, Western Paradise filly Elm Grove Ilse put in her first-ever charted line over an Ontario course.
During Race 1 on the five-dash docket, new trainer Rheal Bourgeois left from Post 6 and settled fifth through opening fractions of :28.2 and :58.2. Bourgeois fired the three-year-old lass first up in the third quarter. The duo was third at the three-quarters and pulled away in the final frame.
Elm Grove Ilse was three lengths the best at the wire. The mile was clocked in a life's best 1:57.4.
In 26 career starts in the Maritimes, Elm Grove Ilse has compiled a record of six wins, five seconds and under $34,000 in purses.
Don Giovanni (1:59.2), Armbro Decal (1:57.2), Book Mark (1:59.3) and Hemingway Hudson (1:57.2) were the other victorious horses this morning.
