It has been reported by kypost.com that police have not yet confirmed the identities of two men killed in the Lebanon Raceway barn fire which occurred during the early morning hours of Saturday, December 5 in Ohio
. Although, track management did confirm to the publication that the two men which tragically lost their lives were grooms Ronnie Williams and James 'Turtle' Edwards.
Williams' niece, Danielle, was quoted in the kypost.com article as saying that Ronnie "was a very distant person. He loved being here (the racetrack) obviously. And he will be missed."
In the article, Lebanon Raceway's vice president of racing and simulcasting, Susan Wilson, was quoted as saying that the outpouring following the fire has been extensive.
"We've had people calling (from) all over the United States, from Canada," Wilson said. "We've had people that are offering equipment. Making monetary donations. Sending love and support and well wishes."
Reports of the fire were called in Saturday at 4:50 a.m. The roof of the barn had already collapsed by the time firefighters arrived on scene. The barn, which can hold up to 80 horses, was fully involved by the time firefighters arrived.
In addition to Williams and Edwards, 43 horses are reported to have loss their lives in the fire.
