Key Maryland Zoning Vote Tonight?

A key vote on a zoning bill by Maryland's Anne Arundel City Council could take place tonight. The vote on the zoning bill could give the Cordish Group the go-ahead for its planned 4,750-VLT Maryland Live! gaming facility

.

According to an article by The Daily Record, the proposed Maryland Live! would be located next to the Arundel Mills shopping mall.

Cordish is also working with the Woodbine Entertainment Group to get the highly anticipated Woodbine Live! expansion at Woodbine Racetrack moving forward.

The close proximity of Cordish's proposed Maryland gaming facility to the shopping mall has brought out pro and anti-gaming interests. If a vote does indeed occur tonight, the bill would need four votes in order to pass. Seven council members will be on hand and five will be voting on the bill.

During a time when money is tight, deficits loom large, and thousands are seeking employment, a green light for Maryland Live! would create 2,500 construction jobs, employ about 1,500 in permanent positions and funnel $337.4 million in taxes to the state and county, according to an analysis of the plan conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers.
