Sterling Cooper overpowered a short field of Open pacers to earn his second consecutive victory in the $10,500 top class at Fraser Downs on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 6).
The track record holder turned in a sharp 1:52.2 winning effort this time out over the sloppy track for trainer/driver Bill Davis and co-owner Jeff Elchuk. He led wire-to-wire while maintaining a leading margin of at least three lengths throughout, with Chewy Baca closing well for second-place over Beren Hanover and Bettor In The Bank. The field was scratched down to those four starters with Jim Vinnell Memorial champion Son Of Anarchy and Comes Home First out sick.
Sterling Cooper paid $2.70 to win as the 1-5 favourite. The victory was the seven-year-old Camluck gelding's 10th this year in 29 starts. It improved his career summary to 31-16-13 in 100 starts and pushed his bankroll over the $200,000 mark.
