Le Fugueur followed the cover of the popular pacing mare Barona Lilac and tracked her down at the wire to win the top class at Truro Raceway on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 6).
Le Fugueur has now won two of his last three starts in the $1,375 Sunday feature for driver Colin Kelly and trainer/owner Blair MacKenzie of Sydney Mines, N.S. The nine-year-old Omar Khayam gelding prevailed by half a length over Barona Lilac in 1:58.1, with last week's winner Gerries Beach finishing third.
James Burton's stable was perfect on Sunday's 10-race card, going two-for-two. The local horseman scored victories with his gelding Eye Forty Seven and homebred mare A Regal Beauty, who earned her third straight victory. A Regal Beauty is a daughter of Stonebridge Regal out of La Sorciere, who was a former Aged Mare of the Year at Truro on several occasions.
Fex Education also won his third race in a row on Sunday for trainer, driver and owner Warren Mackinnon of Sydney, N.S.
Darren Crowe had a driving double and inched closer to Truro's leading reinsman Paul Langille, who tops the local leaderboard with 49 wins in 2015. Crowe sits second, trailing by just six wins with three more Sunday racing programs left this year.
