It was a filly-filled program at Northlands Park on Saturday afternoon, as the Alberta oval played host to a pair of $15,000 Heritage Eliminations and two $55,031 splits of the Debutante Stakes.
A Ps Money Maker, who took over command shortly past the quarter pole, drew away to a four and a half-length score in the first Heritage Elimination for three-year-old pacing fillies. The daughter of Cardmaster Hanover stopped the clock in 1:56.3 for driver Bill Tainsh Jr.
The Travis Umphrey trainee delivered on her 1-5 pari-mutuel promise by defeating Weareverigo and Outlaw Like A Lady.
It was the sixth win of the season and the ninth lifetime score for youngster, who races for Terry Hamilton, Joe Tinelli and Shir Win Racing Stable. The Alberta partners have watched the pacer stash away $226,823 to date.
Doober Hoozzitz pulled off a mild upset to the tune of 3-1 in the second elimination for trainer/driver Warren Grant and owner/breeder Fred Lamont of Calgary, AB.
The daughter of Raleigh Fingers saved ground for most of the mile before springing loose in the lane and posting a three-quarters of a length score over Promise Me Amoment. Third prize went to race favourite Rossridge Divine, who tired after setting the pace.
For Doober Hoozzitz, the victory was just the second in 17 starts this campaign. She pushed her lifetime earnings to $84,720 with the win.
The $75,502 Heritage Final is scheduled to be contested on Saturday, December 13 at Northlands Park.
Today’s nine-race program also featured rookie Debutante divisions for rookie fillies, and both splits went to daughters of As Promised.
Nazko Finally captured the first split in a time of 2:00 for trainer/driver Gerry Hudon. It was the second consecutive victory for the youngster.
Despite a first-over journey, the filly managed to wear down the leaders and drive away to win by one and three-quarters of a length over Barona Hush. Barona Honalulu rounded out the top three.
Bill Boden of Vancouver, BC and Monica Hudon of Edmonton, AB share ownership on the freshman, who has put together a 2-2-1 record in her first five assignments. The lion’s share of today’s purse bumped her bankroll to $45,298.
Sealedwithapromise sat a pocket trip to the mid-way point before rolling to command and driving off to win by a five and three-quarter length score in a time of 2:00 for trainer/driver Keith Clark.
Clark, who holds the papers on the promising juvenile with partners Verne Rea Laurence, MacPherson Standardbreds and Laurence Swalm, easily fended off runner-up HF Agent Nintynine and third-place finisher Attitude Rules.
Sealedwithapromise has put together a 3-2-0 record in five starts while putting away $71,318 in the process.
