'Denali' Chases Down Little Manny

Stepping up into the top Winners Over class at Truro Raceway for the first time, Denali Seelster halted Little Manny's win streak on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 5).

Three-time Sunday winner Darren Crowe was in the sulky for trainer Danny Romo as Denali Seelster took the featured $2,000 pace following a second-place finish and his first Truro victory since arriving at the track in late November for owner Ratchford Stable NS.

American Risk (Ryder Matthews Rennison) established the early lead from the inside post through a :28 opening quarter before the pocket-pulling Good Friday Three (Andrew Campbell) got the jump on the 2-5 favourite Little Manny (Todd Trites) as he swept up off the top turn to push ahead at the :57 half-mile mark.

Moving into the backstretch, Good Friday Three was unable to clear, prompting Little Manny to go three-deep with 8-5 second choice Denali Seelster hot on his heels and following that wide-sweeping move.

Little Manny drew clear past three-quarters in 1:26.2 and opened up a couple of lengths but Denali Seelster chased him down for the 1:56.2 victory over the 'good' track. Little Manny finished three-quarters of a length behind in second after posting three straight wins in the top class last month. Daddy Let Me Drive (Rodney Gillis) rallied from the back for third, finishing 5-1/2 lengths behind.

Denali Seelster returned $5.20 to win. The victory was the third of the season from 10 starts for the four-year-old son of Sunshine Beach, an Ontario Sires Stakes graduate with more than $200,000 in career earnings.
