Bugsy Maguire Best At Charlottetown

The final strides decided the mile as Bugsy Maguire got up in time to win the Sunday afternoon (Dec. 5) featured pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Dale Spence supplied the winning drive in the $3,400 Preferred Pace as Bugsy Maguire reached up to nail pacesetter Screen Test in 1:56.2. Screen Test was second ahead of The Rev. Walter Simmons of Summerside holds the ownership papers of the winning son of Bettors Delight while Wade Sorrie does the training.

Moonwriter rolled for the lead around the final turn to nab a neck victory in the co-featured $3,050 Preferred 2 Pace. David Dowling piloted the nine-year-old Sportswriter stallion for trainer Colin Johnson to a 1:56 win after sitting third for most of the mile until launching his winning bid to the final turn. Debbie Element holds ownership of Moonwriter.

Spence and Sorrie also teamed up to win with Pictonian Storm in Race 9 stopping the clock in 1:57.1.

The Jennifer Doyle stable celebrated a pair of wins as My Land won his third straight on red soil with a 1:58.1 win for driver Jason Hughes and Chocolate Swirl won in 1:56.4 in line to Adam Merner.

Total handle was $43,129.

Live racing continues Saturday and Sunday afternoon (Dec. 11-12) at Red Shores Charlottetown.
