Stormy Tuesday Rallies In BC Stake Final

Starting from the back of the pack, Stormy Tuesday worked her way up to capture the $30,000 BC Stallion Stake final for two-year-old pacing fillies at Fraser Downs in a special non-wagering race held prior to the start of the Friday card

While Stormy Tuesday and driver Kevin Anderson got away eighth and last from a Post 7 start, Red Star Tweedy (Mike Bourgeois) fared better leaving from post position No. 3. “Tweedy” put up a :29 first quarter before a parked out Shes With Me (Ed Hensley) drove on to claim the top spot with Fast Lane Delila (Rod Therres) following. Fast Lane Delila moved up alongside the new leader at the half-mile mark of :59.4 before surging ahead in the third interval.

Been Down Before (Jim Marino) was next in line to take a shot at the lead with Stormy Tuesday following her cover. As the field approached three-quarters in 1:29, Been Down Before moved within a half-length of the lead while Stormy Tuesday tipped three-wide. The Debra McCarthy trainee used a :30.4 final quarter to prevail in 2:00 by a half-length over Been Down Before. Red Star Stella (Mike Hennessy) came on for third.

Now two-for-five in her debut season, the Kents On Nuke-Sparks Will Fly N filly owned and bred by the J J J Stables of Aldergrove, B.C. and Mark Anderson of Willows, California, sports a bankroll totaling $25,600.

In the $12,000 Open Pace featured on the regular racing program, Cash Account and driver Carl Sibiga sat fourth for most of the mile before rallying off second over cover in the stretch for the 15-1 upset in 1:53.3 by a head over pacesetter Ridgeline (Mike Hennessy). The time of the mile equaled the six-year-old gelding’s lifetime mark. Lilsharkshooter (Jim Marino) was only a neck behind in third.

Heather Sifert trains the son of D M Dilinger-Twice Royal for owner Calvin Nyuli of Abbotsford, B.C. The win was Cash Account’s third in 25 seasonal starts pushing his earnings to $36,308. The 13-time career winner has pocketed $139,389 in purses.
