Amigo Mio carried an uncovered march to fruition and out-kicked a stubborn pacesetter to capture the $11,000 Preferred Trot at Flamboro Downs on Thursday, Dec. 4.
Three horses went out to make early bids, allowing Austin Sorrie to slide Amigo Mio over from post five to the pylons. Serenity Cruise (Travis Cullen) reached the point before the quarter in :28.1 but was overtaken by Insanity (Jason Ryan), who circled him from the pocket on the first trip down the backstretch. Amigo Mio set off on his first-up journey coming off the second turn, moving up through the half in :59.1 to pressure the leader to three-quarters in 1:28.1. As Amigo Mio pulled alongside Insanity, the top pair separated from the rest, and they warred around the final turn until Amigo Mio drew clear handily to a 1-1/4-length victory in 1:58.2. Goodashim (Scott Coulter) was third.
Amigo Mio won for the 10th time this season in 32 tries, improving his career record to 23-for-124 with $157,094 in earnings. Gerard Demers trains the seven-year-old son of Amigo Hall-Oh Hannah for La Ferme Tag Inc. of Papineauville, Que.
Earlier on the card, driver Brady Galliers took his first victory since moving to Ontario in November as he piloted Maloucious ($15.60) to a pocket-riding win in 1:59.2 for trainer Carmen Auciello.
