With the top regular Meadowlands drivers out of town, Pat Berry took full advantage of their absence as he won five races Saturday night at Meadowlands Racetrack
.
Berry, a 34-year-old Illinois native who now resides in Jamesburg, New Jersey, kicked off the night by teaming with trainer Tom Fanning to sweep the early double with More Diamonds and So Be It. More Diamonds charged to the wire in 1:54.3 to win the first race, a $12,500 conditioned pace for three and four-year-old fillies and mares. The three-year-old daughter of Dragon Again-Silksndiamonds paid $6.20 to win. This was her fifth win of the season for Fanning and owner Joseph E. Smith of Vero Beach, Florida.
Berry came right back to win the second race for Fanning, guiding So Be It first over to a 1:53.3 victory. The $10,000 conditioned pace for two, three and four-year-olds supplied So Be It with his 10th win of the season for Fanning and co-owners Leon J. Zimmerman of Trenton, New Jersey and VIP Stable, LLC of Wilmington, Delaware. The three-year-old by Western Ideal out of Royal Ball paid $19.80 to win.
Berry also steered home Theredandpanlines ($7.20) in the fifth race, and longshots Terror Time ($28.60) in the seventh race, and Basilio Bluechip ($15.40) in the eighth race.
