For the second straight week, Dojea Gizmo was impressive in winning the Open Pace in 1:50.4 on closing day at Hollywood Dayton.
Driver Trevor Smith secured a two-hole trip for the four-year-old son of Tellitlikeitis, who hit the quarter beam in :26.3 and then tapped the brakes to the :56.2 halfway juncture. Heavily favoured Sectionline Bigry (Brett Miller) came to call during the speedy :26.2 third quarter to take command around the final turn, but Dojea Gizmo was patiently sitting in the pocket. He was waiting for Sectionline Bigry to tire, and when he finally softened, the winner pounced to take the lead and lengthen it through the stretch. Sectionline Bigry did hang on for second while GD Western Joe (Chris Page) rode the pylons to secure a third place finish.
Black Magic Racing LLC owns Dojea Gizmo, who eclipsed the $300,000 earnings plateau with his 17th career win in 59 starts. Todd Luther conditions the winner.
Leading driver and trainer awards for the 70-day Hollywood Dayton meet were awarded to driver Tyler Smith and trainer Ron Burke. It was Smith’s first dash title in the first eight years of competition at Hollywood Dayton. It was Burke’s second meet training title.
