After a bad beat in his previous outing at Rideau Carleton Raceway, Maracasso rolled to an impressive triumph in Mondays’ $8,500 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Making his debut for trainer Fred Bourgault, Maracasso rocketed to the lead from Post 7 for driver Travis Henry. Together, they carved out fractions of :27.2, :57.2 and 1:26.3 before finishing off his mile with a final quarter clocked in :30.1. It was enough to earn the gelding the win by three-quarters of a length over Mr Mach Jimmy in 1:56.4. The 4-5 favourite, Avatar J, rallied late to finish third.
Sent off at odds of 3-1, the seven-year-old son of Lis Mara-Miss Picasso improved his 2019 record to 13-5-2 from 30 starts for Ecurie Alpha of Metabetchouan, QC. The 22-time winner is quickly closing in on $100,000 in lifetime earnings.
