Lyons Hedgeabet Shines As Hi-5 Grows

Recent Harvest Series winner Lyons Hedgeabet closed out the Monday night harness card at Woodbine Mohawk Park with a half-length victory to lead the winning combination for the Jackpot Hi-5 wager, which now features a carryover of more than $218,000.

Geoffrey Lyons Mound's three-year-old pacing filly completed a training double for Jeff Gillis, who also watched his trotting trainee Manofmanyimages nose out millionaire Il Sogno Dream in 1:56.1 two races earlier.

In the finale, Lyons Hedgeabet flushed out cover down the backstretch in the form of Cosette then defeated that foe in 1:55.2 while the pacesetting freshman Shadow Sparks finished right there in third, with Protect Blue Chip getting up between horses for fourth. Kaymar Chrome completed the top five order of finish.

Driven by Bob McClure, the Mach Three miss returned $3 to win as the heavy 1-2 favourite. Unraced at age two, she now boasts a 2-3-4 record from nine starts and earnings totalling $52,050.

With more than one winning ticket for the Jackpot Hi-5, the carryover will be $218,203.66 heading into Thursday's card. A $1 Hi-5 ticket with the correct combination of 6-2-5-4-3 returned $747.55.
