The cavalry didn’t quite make it over the hill this time, and New York City OTB closed down today, just as the slow-riding New York Senate said it would return to special session Tuesday to continue “considering” the OTB’s reorganization
and rescue plan.
The OTB’s chairman, Larry Schwartz, called this ride too late, and said City OTB was “dead on arrival.”
There was confusion right to the end. News media couldn’t decide whether the number of employees laid off was 800 or 1,020, a pretty wide spread.
And bettors at Aqueduct yesterday weren’t much better. They allowed the feature race winner to gallop home a $15.40 winner in the 'Big A’s feature. His name? Goodbyeandgoodluck.
