An accident in the final turn marred Friday night's ninth race at Fraser Downs.
The odds-on favourite, Working Class Hero, had tipped out from the pocket down backstretch for driver Rod Therres and gained a short advantage when confronting leader JK Pure Gold over the sloppy track, with Marvtherat pursuing in third and moving three-wide. Working Class Hero broke stride in the final turn causing interference to Marvtherat, who unseated his driver Garry Schedlosky and fell but was up quickly under his own power. Most of the trailing horses were also interfered with as a result of the incident.
Pureform Gangster and Travis Bowman went on to win the race in 2:00 at odds of 45-1 over Working Class Hero, who was disqualified for causing the incident on the turn. JK Pure Gold finished third 5-3/4 lengths behind while Churchbell Hanover and Go Chasenmystery were a distant fourth and fifth. Puff The Magic had pulled up after breaking stride at the start of the race.
Announcer Dan Jukich reported that Schedlosky jumped into the start car so he appeared to be OK, while Marvtherat was corralled by the outrider and also appeared to come out of the accident unscathed.
