Gelding Switches It Up

Former Monticello Raceway Horse of the Year Southbound Trucker returned to the 'Mighty M' on Tuesday, December 28 and picked up where he left off, as he scored yet another victory.

Bruce Aldrich, Jr. handled the driving chores for trainer Art Stamatien. The seven-year-old Sharky Spur gelding recorded a 1:58:4 triumph in the weekly winners-over pace.

Southbound Trucker is a horse that has shown he likes to get it done from off the pace, but Aldrich turned the tables on the field and sent his mount to the front from Post 3. Once on top, the Yonkers Raceway invader made every pole a winning one en route to a two-length victory, the pacer’s sixth win of the year.

Future Fan (driven by Mike Merton) shadowed Southbound Trucker from the start and made a move to overtake the pacesetter at the three quarters. Although, Southbound Trucker was up to the challenge.

Future Fan held on for second place while Master Of Wars (Jimmy Taggart, Jr.) finished third.

Southbound Trucker, who was sent off as the favourite, returned $4.60 for the win.
