Going on a first-over grind, Tuscan Prince proved to be too much as he delivered as 1-2 favourite in the $12,000 Preferred Trot, which highlighted the 10-race Flamboro Downs card on Saturday, Dec. 28.
Leaving from the rail in the field of eight, Tuscan Prince and driver Paul MacKenzie got away fourth on the first turn while Marvin Hagler (Austin Sorrie) cut the quarter in :29.1. Tuscan Prince went on the offensive approaching the half, going first-up and challenging the leader to that point in :59.1. The battle raged on the backstretch, with Tuscan Prince surging three parts of a length clear of Marvin Hagler at three-quarters in 1:27.4.
Turning for home, Tuscan Prince put away Marvin Hagler, surging clear by 3-1/2 lengths at the top of the lane. Treasured Tee (Samuel Fillion) made a late bid in the stretch, but Tuscan Prince coasted home a winner by a length in 1:58.2. Twin B Archie (Scott Coulter) rallied for the third spot.
Luc Blais trains Tuscan Prince for Determination. The four-year-old gelded son of Kadabra-Tosca has won five of 17 starts on the year, banking $36,150 this season and just shy of $400,000 for his career.
