Jack Panic sat chilly in the pocket throughout, before pulling a 13-1 stunner in the $28,000 conditioned pace, which highlighted the 11-race card at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday, Dec. 28.
Leaving from post five with driver Jonathan Drury, Jack Panic left alertly, pacing in second to the inside of 3-5 favourite Fortify (Tyler Borth) through a quarter of :27.1. Jack Panic allowed the favourite to clear on the backstretch, taking the tuck to the halfway point in :56.1. Pacino Hanover (Travis Cullen) went first-up on the final turn, moving into second to the outside of Jack Panic while Fortify led to three-quarters in 1:24.1.
Turning for home, Jack Panic was able to vacate the pocket, surging alongside Fortify midway though the lane. Pacing home in :27.4, Jack Panic drove on to win by a length over a closing Poseidon Seelster (Bob McClure) in 1:52.1. Livinthebeachlife (Trevor Henry) rallied for the third spot at 46-1.
Jack Panic returned $29.50 at the betting windows for the victory. The win was the fourth in 43 outings this season for Jack Panic, who has banked $145,450 on the year. Carmen Auciello trains the five-year-old gelded son of Sportswriter-R We There Yet for owner Brian Paquet.
The win was one of two on the card for the Drury/Auciello combo, as they won the sixth with Southside Eddy ($5, 1:53.4).
